5 ways to organise your cookbooks

Post-it® Brand - 5 ways to organise your cookbooks

Having a cookbook collection is great, for lots of reasons – you’ve always got something new to try, you’ve got great references for your favourite recipes and you can always page through for dinner inspiration when you’re stuck.

  • Sometimes, it can be kind of hard to find what you’re looking for, whether you’re in a hurry, or you just can’t seem to remember which recipes you were excited about when you first skimmed through the book.

The best thing to do is keep things organised by marking the recipes you want to come back to with Post-it® Index or Post-it® Index Strong. Here are a few useful ways to keep things fast, easy and accessible.

  • 1. Meal categories

Use different Post-it® Index colours to mark ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetisers and snacks. Or divide your cookbooks or recipe binder into sections, using Post-it® Index Strong labelled with your categories.

  • 2. Dietary restrictions

If you’re planning a party or cooking for more than one type of diet (like a vegetarian and an avowed carnivore in the same house), use Post-it® Index in different colours for each special diet.

  • 3. Time spent cooking

Assign a different colour Post-it® Page Marker to levels of complexity in recipes – green for simple, yellow for medium and pink for fancy or complicated. Then, write the number of minutes each recipe would take on the page marker, so you can choose a recipe to make based on how much time you’ve got. (You might want to note how much time for prep versus how much time to cook recipes, too.)

  • 4. Family likes and dislikes

If you’re cooking for a crowd, you can mark recipes that each family member likes and dislikes – or choose colours to represent recipes favoured by the grown-ups, kids or the whole family.

  • 5. Inspiration by season

Don’t forget to have a little fun with recipes you’re really excited about – and give yourself a great source of inspiration when you’re looking for new ideas. A great way to do it is to mark recipes perfect for spring, summer, autumn and winter – or for special occasions like birthdays and holidays.
